  • FINANCIAL PLANNING INFORMATION AND UPDATES
    The Menlo Park City School District is engaged in a community-wide conversation regarding how to address the structural deficit. In partnership with the Superintendent’s Advisory Committee on Communication, the following updates and resources have been made available to you.

    JANUARY 10 REGULAR BOARD MEETING UPDATE

    At the Board’s regular January meeting, the Board reviewed information regarding the level of reductions and staff release/layoff options with or without a March 2017 Parcel Tax. The Board also approved the start date for the 2017-18 school year (August 24, 2017), approved the audit for 2015-16, received a Technology update, and more.

    DECEMBER 13 REGULAR BOARD MEETING UPDATE

    At the Board’s regular December meeting, the Board reviewed reduction recommendations with or without a March 2017 Parcel Tax. The Board also recognized staff retirees, approved the District's First Interim Budget, and more.

    DECEMBER 5 SPECIAL BOARD MEETING UPDATE

    Special Board meeting was conducted to continue the discussion and hear community input regarding reduction priorities and the levels of potential parcel taxes. The new Board members were seated and welcomed. The Board elected their new President and Vice President. District staff presented specific information regarding reduction levels set against specific parcel tax amounts. The next draft of a parcel tax resolution was presented with the starting point of $350 for six years with an election in March. Preliminary results to community survey were presented. Board discussed resolution options and received community input. A decision was made to approve the levying of a $360 parcel tax to expire after seven years in a March 7, 2017 election.

    NOVEMBER 30 SPECIAL BOARD MEETING UPDATE

    Special Board meeting was conducted to continue the discussion and hear community input regarding reduction priorities and the levels of potential parcel taxes. District staff presented more detailed information regarding reduction and parcel tax amounts, as well as a draft resolution for the levying of a potential parcel tax. The district's strategy consultants and the district's attorney spoke. Community input was received. Outgoing, incoming, and continuing Board members were engaged in the discussion; the Board gave staff direction to draft a resolution with the starting point of a $350 parcel tax, expiring after six years.

    NOVEMBER 17 SPECIAL BOARD MEETING UPDATE

    Special Board meeting was conducted to continue the discussion and hear community input regarding reduction priorities and the levels of potential parcel taxes. Outgoing, incoming, and continuing Board members were engaged in the discussion. The district's strategy consultants spoke. Community input was received.

    NOVEMBER 9 REGULAR BOARD MEETING UPDATE

    At the Board’s regular November meeting, the Superintendent’s Advisory Committee on Communication presented the community input. Superintendent Maurice Ghysels presented a revised proposal for reductions set against different parcel tax options. Community input was received.

    At the Board’s regular October meeting, Superintendent Maurice Ghysels presented preliminary budget reductions of over $5.5 million over the next three years. Community comment was received.
